Welfare Rights Advisor Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund

FUNDED:  8 months
Full-time:  35 hrs per week
Salary:  £25,000 per annum
Location: Glasgow (G15)

The successful applicant will assist in the development and implementation of the money advice service offered across the Glasgow North West area and will work within the Money Advice Team covering welfare rights.
Core function:
The core function of the Welfare Rights Advisor’s remit is to provide advice, assistance and representation to clients with financial problems, covering all aspects of welfare rights. 
It is essential that you possess extensive knowledge of all welfare benefits (Department for Work and Pensions and Scottish Social Security).  You should have the ability to manage a busy caseload and be an active team member.  
Actual function:
The role has a variety of activities and considerations in managing the delivery of the objectives and outcomes of Drumchapel Money Advice Centre.  The tasks will include the following:
  • Provide advice and assistance to clients with financial issues via telephone, face-to-face or email at DMAC’s office or an outreach location.
  • Carry out benefit calculations to maximise client’s income providing advice on welfare benefits and other sources of financial assistance.
  • Identify benefit entitlements and assist client to apply for same.
  • Provide guidance, information and support in the areas of welfare benefits and representation at benefit tribunals when necessary.
  • Offer appropriate assistance to individuals requiring help with budgeting.
  • Communicate effectively with third parties on behalf of the client.
  • Manage a busy case load and carry out detailed casework on the client’s behalf.
  • Maintain accurate computer records in line with DMAC’s procedures.
  • Ensure GDPR legislation is adhered to.
  • Keep up to date with current legislation relevant to the Financial Inclusion Sector and be accountable for own personal development.
  • Actively participate in any training or activities to improve advice practices and business processes.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of DMAC.
  • Perform any other related duties which may be required to produce an effective outcome in your day-to-day tasks and objectives.
